GUNLOK DEMO README.TXT 19th AUG 2000 GENERAL INFO Please note this Gunlok demo represents work in progress, and certain features are not fully implemented or optimised as yet, due to this performance may be greatly reduced on lower end systems. Windows 2000 users please note due to a bug in the version of Direct X that ships with Windows 2000, you will need to install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 for Gunlok to function properly. The VERY HIGH SHADOWS setting on the Graphics Options should NOT be selected as this is completely unoptimised and will result in extremely low frame rates. GAMEPLAY HINTS AND TIPS USING THE UPGRADE SCREEN Use U to toggle the Upgrade Screen on/off. When the Upgrade Screen is active simply click on ANY of the character panels at the right of the screen to switch to that character's Upgrade Screen. To pass an object from one character to another simply drag the item off the Upgrade Screen and onto to the other character's panel. GROUPING YOUR CHARACTERS Grouping your characters into two groups of two whose abilities complement each other can be a useful tactic. USING THE TERRAIN SCANNER Gunlok starts the mission with a Terrain Scanner. Go to the upgrade screen and equip it by double clicking on it. Enemies are indicated as red blips. Left click on the bottom right area of the Terrain Scanner and drag it larger so you can see more of the map. You can also drag and drop it whereever you like and resize it smaller as well as larger. If you drag it over to the bottom right of the screen it will dock under the other panels. SELECTING CHARACTERS Simply double click on a character to select it. ACTIVE PAUSE Use the ACTIVE PAUSE feature to set-up well organised team attacks against the more dangerous enemies. Nearly all of the control keys are redefinable via the MAIN MENU. We recommend you redefine the ACTIVE PAUSE toggle on/off key to be TAB and redefine select next character as k instead of TAB. If you use the above suggested key definitions for active pause mode then you can: 1) Active pause with TAB 2) Hold down CNTRL and enter a list of commands. 3) While entering commands with CNTRL HELD DOWN just press back slash to delete the last command entered. Gunlok is designed to let you play how you want... If you're finding the mission difficult think about all the many ways you can use the equipment and unique abilities of your team members... then try again ! GUNLOK DEMO COMPATIBLE GRAPHIC CARDS (Gunlok runs well on these cards provided you have up-to-date drivers.) Geforce 2 Geforce Geforce Quadra Savage 4 Tnt 2 ultra Tnt 2 Tnt 1 Rage Fury Maxx - runs OK apart from some flickering occuring during the loading screens. Voodoo 5 - OK unless you choose 1600 X 1200 resolution. - Do not select Very High Shadows or it will be unplayably slow. GUNLOK RUNS ON THE FOLLOWING CARDS ALSO BUT WITH A FEW GLITCHES ATI Radeon - Shadows do not work, turn them OFF or you will get various graphics glitches. - Slight flicker on Mission Briefing Screen. - Slight glitching at the bottom few lines of the screen on some levels. ATI Rage 128 Pro - Screen flickers quite badly on the menu/briefing/loading and upgrade screen. Voodoo3 - Enemy Audio Scan and Vision Scan are overly translucent and can be difficult to see. - Shadows do not work. Turn them off or you will just get a black screen. - Unfortunately most of our cool lighting effects do not YET work on Voodoo 3. - No chrome effects on objects in the Upgrade Screen. Voodoo 2 - Shadows cause lots of graphical problems so leave them OFF if running on this card. - Alpha textures do not work currently so you will get gaps in walls/floors whereever these textures should appear. - Enemy Audio Scan and Vision Scan are overly translucent and can be difficult to see. - Lighting effects do not work in fogged areas. - No chrome effects on objects in the Upgrade Screen. - Increasing screen resolution may affect the useable screen area. Please refer to the Manual.html for full a guide to playing this demo.
